CS 373 Spring 2022: Varun Nayak Blog #10
What did you do this past week?
This past week I celebrated my 21st bithday with ny close friends. It was fun because I am a legal adult now. I was glad that Phase 2 was due the night before so I could celebrate it with my friends. My brother also booked a boat for me on Lake Travis which was fun since I could bring 12 other friends for a total of fourteen people.
What’s in your way?
I have to do well these next couple of weeks and make sure that everything is on track for being completed properly. I don’t have much in the way but I should be getting prepared to complete things on time.
What will you do next week?
Next week our group will meet to discuss roles and review Phase 3. I will also make sure to calcualte my grades and work towards the best grades I can get in my classes and start communicating with my SWE team for summer internship to see what project I am working on .
What did you think of Paper 10. Why getter and setter methods are evil?
I have reread this paper since I have already read it last semester in OOP. I think getter and setter methods are evil since they go agaist the principles mentioned in the paper and are not clean implemenations. It’s better to provide working functionalities instead of introducing clutter in the code.
What was your experience of functions, regular expressions. and relational algebra? (this question will vary, week to week)
I had zero experience with relational algebra but have had experience with regular expressions and relational algebra.
What made you happy this week?
This week I was happy that my friends came from different cities across Texas to celebrate my birthday. I had friends drive over from Dallas and Houston which was great since it shows how great friends we are. The weather on Friday was amazing and it was very therapeutic to jump in the lake when i was on the boat.
What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?
My tip of the week is to always keep a level head. Sometimes it’s very easy to take life to seriously and not enjoy the present because of small nuances. I think finding some escapism helps such as a sport or hobby that you can enjoy doing by yourself.
